  4.     Contrary to your article on the causes of juvenile violence
  5. (BEHAVIOR, June 12), I did not use the term "misshapen
  6. personalities" to describe the effect on young people of a lack of
  7. parenting. I did say more and more children are being raised by
  8. troubled, often violent parents, and this experience, when combined
  9. with certain vulnerabilities of impaired impulse control, such as
  10. psychiatric, cognitive and neurological problems, seems to create
  11. extraordinarily aggressive juveniles. Unfortunately, this
  12. constellation of intrinsic and environmental factors is
  13. increasingly common in our society today.
